Chapter Five - The Silver Lining

Chapter Five – The Silver Lining

This was Scarlet’s last stand, here inside a abandoned home out in the middle of no where. Soaking wet, covered in dirt, scared and surrounded by moth eaten furniture. This was how she was going to die, here now, holding a silver pan, huddled in a corner between two walls and a counter; just hoping for the best trying not to make to much noise.

She could hear Dalton’s heavy footsteps come in to the room. The werewolf that had killed her mother and who had said Lex’s and Savannah’s death were good. How much did she want to just kill him as ugly and painful has possible? Lots. Even scared to death now she was tempted to do so no matter the risk.

False alarm,” Dalton’s deep voice says. There was no sign of anyone else but him so she guessed they were alone again. She couldn’t make up her mind rather that was good or not; good she suppose sense that means one less werewolf to fight against. “Where the Hell are you?” He suddenly growls. Scarlet could picture him standing above the spot were she had been tied up in a corner, looking down at the bloody ropes. Her wrist were still bleeding from the rope cutting in to her skin.

She holds her breath, trying to be as quiet as possible. She could hear Dalton moving closer. “I bet that brat just ran off again,” he says to himself, stepping in to the muddy kitchen.

Scarlet closes her eyes, holding the pan closer to her, feeling the cool silver against her chest through the wet fabric. She counted in her head as he came closer, she knew she’d have to be quick. 1… This was a big risk. 2… . She’d probably fail at it and die anyways. 3… .She didn’t care.

She wasn’t sure how she managed it, getting up so fast and being strong enough to swing the pan as hard as she could and actually hit Dalton in the face with it. All she could sum it up to was adrenalin, or the fact that she went in to fight mode. Not actually caring rather she lived or died. She had a slim chance of survival anywhere anyways.

Dalton yelled and screamed holding his face that sizzled popped and smoked. Between his fingers Scarlet could see red, and the smell of burnt hair and flesh flooded and surrounded them both. “Shit, what the Hell did you do? Your dead!” He hollers loudly, it seems like it could shake the building and bring it down on top of them but that isn’t realistic.

So again Scarlet hit him, this time in the side, he screamed again even louder and went back and forth grabbing at his face and now sizzling side. He stumbled around reaching out for Scarlet with one hand in a zombie like motion holding his side. Scarlet smacked the pan against his hand, quickly he brought it back to himself as his fingers curled, shriveled and burned.

He slipped in the mud and landed just in front of Scarlet’s feet, jumping back she avoided his head and thrashing body. He wasn’t fit to come after her in any way, not even to really fight back so she took that time to dig in to her pocket and pull out her silver dagger, the silver wolf gleaming in the sunlight.

Standing above Dalton’s shriveled up and bubbling body, she dug the end of the silver dagger in to his chest through the heart making his burnt lips open gaping, and his blood shot eyes stare off in to the distance. With one last breath he was gone. No longer terrorizing her nor her family.

She dug around in the kitchen drawer after pulling the dagger out and wiping it upon her wet coat. She had found a bunch of silverware and stuffed her pockets as full as possible with them and quickly left the house. Jumping out of the small shack in to the quiet forest was a weird feeling. Like just coming out of Hell and in to the real world but still with the fear from the resent past. She took off then knowing Lupus would be coming by any minute now, unfortunately he’d find Dalton’s body because she had no way in setting him on fire, but she hoped it sent fear down Lupus’ spine, but all it would do in reality is anger him.

She ran through the woods as fast and carefully as possible with silverware jingling in her pockets and scattered limbs and pot holes scattered across the forest floor.

She could feel him as he got closer, feel the darkness around him that followed wherever he went. It was a sickening feeling, and was only proved by the angry yell that rang through the forest, disturbing the wild life on the ground and the birds in the trees. “Scarlet!”

Her name rang through the forest like a thunder crack, sending large amount of lightning of fear through her body as she ran away.

Spotting a large opening in a small hill ahead, she hoped for the best that it was a small cave or just a stable hole where the dirt had given way, and made a bee-line for it. Faster and faster it approached, as did Lupus. Entering the dirt ridden cave she dumped the silverware from her pockets and scattered it in a line at the opening of the cave as best as possible. As she did so she could see the black of Lupus’s shirt but she didn’t look up to see the rest of him.

Shivering from fear and the coldness that was making its way known once again she huddled in the far corner as Lupus approached the line of silverware looking down at it with confusion and anger. “What the Hell is this?”

You can’t get in,” she says quietly making Lupus look up, narrowing his red eyes at her. He took a step closer to the line of silverware and Scarlet held her breath, hoping that it’d actually work.

Then his boots touched the silverware and suddenly he roared jumping back, his boot smoking. He stomped it out for a while in front of the cave as Scarlet shivered watching with mild interest as he did so. For a moment he didn’t seem so threatening but just because it had been a momentary weakness didn’t mean he was ready to play nice.

As soon as he turned around to face her she knew she was right, no where inside his black, shriveled up heart is there anything but evil and hate. “I’m not leaving,” He said dangerously and disappeared out of Scarlet’s sight.

She didn’t have long till sundown so quickly she grabbed some of the sticks scattered on the dirty ground and piled them together, working hard to make a fire.

Fifteen or so minutes later the sticks lit with a red and orange glow and smoke rose from the pile, making Scarlet grin ear to ear. She threw her red jacket off and rung it out as best as possible. After so she hung it on a root sticking down from above over the fire to dry.

Sticking close to the fire she warmed up quickly, fighting off the cold wetness that she had previously just minutes ago. Ever so often she’d hear Lupus outside, and he’d stalk around the little dirty cave. At one point he just stood there starring at her, it was twilight now and that’s exactly what he was doing.

He was standing in the middle of the opening, away from the silverware line just enough. He stood their emotionless just looking at her with his chin resting on his balled up hand; studying her as she tried her best to ignore his presence but not lose track of him.

You know, you’re different than the rest,” he says deeply making her attention turn fully to him. He showed no emotion still. “Your actually a good player.”

She raises one eyebrow and looks at the dirt wall beside her. “And what exactly does that mean?”

Lupus chuckled amused by the way she spoke. Trying to hide her curiousness that she so deeply had carved in her veins, the need for information but also the need to try and hide it. “It means your actually a small challenge. I like challenges.” He begins to pace around the opening once more. “In fact, you’re so much better than the other Hood’s have been, that I might not actually kill you.”

That got a wide eye look from Scarlet. “What?” Could there actually be hope that she’d survive this?

I might turn you,” he says with a smirk on his face, stopping once again and crouching down resting his arms on his knees. “You’d make a good puppy. Just got to train you to obey, what fun that would be. You could be strong, powerful, wouldn’t have to fight to survive.”

She could see what he was doing, trying to bate her in, trying to show some hope even if it was fake. “Yeah, that didn’t help your puppies back at the warehouse, nor Dalton did it?” She asked shooting her words towards him like daggers. Trying to be brave, though her insides shook and stirred from fear.

His eyes narrowed and glared at her. “You will pay for that.”

You just said you probably wouldn’t kill me,” Scarlet says tilting her head side ways. “How would I pay for it then?”

Lupus rose again, straightening up his eyes glowed brighter as the night grew darker, and the moon was just becoming visible. “I said I probably wouldn’t kill you. I never said anything about not making your life a living Hell, or wishing that you were dead.”

Scarlet sucked in a breath as Lupus chest swelled, and his shirt began to stretch. “But I’m starting to rethink that.” His teeth sharpen, and his claws extend out from his hands, as the hair on his body begin to grow out and become midnight black.

His skin and body rippled and seized. his skin peeled back in places and that was it. Scarlet pressed herself in to the dirty wall as far as she could as she watched in horror as Lupus changed forms in front of her. This wasn’t like in the warehouse when they were becoming human again, this was sick and horrible, and looks way more gross and painful.

It only lasted a few seconds, one second he was a man and the next a giant black, red eyed wolf. Through all of this he never took his eyes off her, making it seem like hours.

With a thunderous growl he bared his teeth and took off to the left, leaving a trail behind him. Above her the ground shook, dirt and root shaking and falling down. She could hear the breathing of Lupus, and the footsteps that he took.

Then he started to attack the ground, tearing through it with his razor sharp teeth and claws, trying to do as much damage as possible. He was no longer a quiet, graceful creature but a loud wrecking machine. At least that’s what it was like.

Filled with horror Scarlet realized Lupus’ plan as he tore at the ground above even more, little beams of moonlight coming through the small pencil sizes holes; Lupus was trying to bring down the roof on top of her.

She couldn’t run outside, he had the high ground and was much faster than she, so she had to stay inside here. There was only one way to do that, if it didn’t bring down the roof itself.

Grabbing the silver dagger, she held it tightly in her hand standing right beneath were Lupus was trying to tare through. Trying her best to time it as best as possible, she jammed the dagger through the dirt aiming for Lupus’s open mouth, or possibly a paw.

She was successful by the sound of the yelp he made, with a smile she tried once again earning another one. But her taste of victory did not last. As more dirt came down and muddy rocks and sticks, the ground above was fading away, quick glimpse of black fur and white teeth would be caught. Soon he would be inside with her, or falling on top of her if the ground was the give way.

Shielding herself and backing away in to the ashes of the fire. Heat eating it’s way through her boots. It was no use to fight any longer he would be falling through any second now.

A loud boom! Rumbled through the night, louder than Scarlet was expecting making her reach for her ears and fall to her knees, and then another. Opening one eye she looked around the empty half eaten away cave, Lupus hadn’t fallen through and was no where in site. Then another ear splintering boom and this time she could hear the growls and wounded yelps.

Soon she identified the loud booms as gun shots. Who was shooting? She had no idea but she was grateful for it. She knew this would be her chance to escape while Lupus is distracted.

Quickly jumping up and grabbing her coat off the dirty ground she ran out of the cave, instantly smacked with the smell of gun powder, burnt hair, and silver.

Yet she didn’t know who was shooting she still ran out blind. She just hoped they had the brain not to shot her too when they fired more shots and Lupus howled.

Wait… . Can they see him?

She was of a blood line, the only human race that could actually see what creatures really are, did this shooter know that its a werewolf or just a wolf?

Running towards the sound of the gun shots she’d find out. There was only one way. Behind her Lupus fell off the cave and saw her running away, bleeding and burning from the silver. Silver… They could just be lucky, couldn’t they?

\

Lupus began to come after Scarlet, desperate for her death. That’s when a woman with smiling wrinkles, long gray and white hair and soft hazel eyes with a strong presence despite her size and appearance came around a tree holding a wooden stock shotgun in her arms. “Stay away from my Granddaughter.”

Blam!

Yes, she could see. Scarlet was relived and thrilled to see and be in the hands of her grandmother as she cross the line of small silver that was scattered on top of the decaying leaves and pine needles. Lucy Riding was still alive and well with the aim of a pro.

The tables had just been turned, a new player to Lupus chess game.

TO BE CONTUINED.

The Curse of Hood Chapter Four - Inner Demons

Chapter Four – Inner Demons

The bark of the tree was cold against Scarlet’s back and the wind blew her hair around herself. In the red jacket, perched high up in a pine tree she looked as if she could be a over sized cardinal. She sat quietly up there, out of sight, starring out in to the distance. Up ahead sits a small white house; although her attention turned completely to a single window.

Seth held his green and black cell phone to his right ear, pacing around in the kitchen. He had dialed the number more than three times already. Scarlet could see the faint glow of her phone far below her, Seth’s name and picture  on it. She watched him in the window, he wasn’t alone. A tall, lanky, tan, dirty blonde boy about sixteen – Fred – who was a typical teenage boy. Seth’s obsession was aliens when Fred’s was girls in ways Scarlet didn’t want to think about. But Fred was Seth’s best friend from before she came around, when she did he had set him to the side. They had only met a few times when she had stumbled in when Fred was visiting, needless to say she nearly broke his hand once.

By the looks of it, Seth hung up again. His hair was wilder than usual, going every where. He pressed the buttons on his phone fiercely. Fred grabbed his shoulders, shouting something she couldn’t hear. Seth, despite the size difference of the two boys, shoved Fred away and yelled back. She thought she could see redness around his eyes, cheeks and the end of his nose.

Scarlet couldn’t help but watch when Seth threw the phone on to the dinning table and tackled Fred, who gaped as soon as Seth had gotten a hold of him. They fallen out of Scarlet’s sight but the rare occasion of elbows, legs and the tops of their heads appearing as they rolled around on the kitchen floor. Mrs. Bailey appeared in the window soon after, startled and worried, she yelled something at them and reached to grab one of the boys, but a cop squeezed between her and grabbed Seth by the collar of his shirt and yanked him up off of Fred, who jumped up with blood running down his nose. He wasn’t trying to go after Seth, but Seth was throwing a fit in the cops arm, screaming, and thrashing.

That’s when she turned away from it, slowly she crawled down from the tree. The sun was up, shinning through the glossy leaves of the tree tops. The ground was slick and wet from last night’s storm below the blanket of pine needles. She scoops up her phone, she was wrong he hadn’t called four times, he had called twelve, and left a voice mail each time. She frowned and clicked the button to listen to them, she took a deep breath holding the phone up to her ear, waiting.

Voice mail 1;” the machine lady spoke, then Seth’s voice came up, he sounded normal but worried. “Scarlet I don’t know what’s going on. Everyone is screaming and you ran off. Why did you go? Call me back.”

Voice mail 2; Scarlet, where are you? I went to the cafe,” he choked on the other side, he sounded kind of panicked. “The place is a wreck, Lex is missing and Savannah’s dead. Scar, I’m really worried about you.”

Voice mail 3; Scar, I’m sorry for whatever I did, I shouldn’t have dragged you to the convention. There’s cops everywhere questioning me. I miss you. I don’t know what’s going on still, where are you? Why did you leave? Please come back, Scar I need you. Please-” Shaking, Scarlet dropped the phone in the middle of voice mail 3. He sounded hurt, restless and as if he had been crying. She couldn’t take listening to it.

Backing away from the phone, she ran off in to the woods, deep in to the darkness of shadows and the sounds of nature. The sun was up and she didn’t have long till Lupus began to track her. She only hoped he would by pass Seth’s house sense her scent didn’t even venture in to the yard. She knew it was a risk but she had to check on him, see him. It took everything she had not to run in there and hug him and tell him everything. But she couldn’t, he was already in enough danger by just knowing her.

She walked around in the woods, further in and then turned around after a little while, curious, she started back towards town. Not in the direction of Seth’s. To be honest she didn’t actually know where she was going till she saw the wrecked cafe, abandoned, yellow caution tape was strapped around the place. No one was there anymore, no sign that it had been werewolves there at all, just maybe some really determined robbers.

Pulling her hood up over her head and face she walked out pass the building and in to the damp street. Not much traffic runs through town at the moment. She walks down the side walk with her head drawn down looking at her feet as she walks.

Pots and Ware storage warehouse has been mysteriously burned to the ground.”

She look up suddenly, passing a small used electronics store, they had Tvs on display by the window. All turned on to the morning news, a blonde lady in a nice suit with a little to much surgery done in her mind was on the screen. Sitting behind her was a pile of flaming beams and fallen trash. Fire fighters run in the background trying to put it out with their huge hoses. Smoke the color of the darkest storm cloud raises up in to the sky, and in the distance Scarlet could see that same smoke like, a storm up in the sky. “No one knows exactly how the building caught on fire, but professionals will be on the case. Residents near by say the fire came about early this morning about six o’clock, and several bodies have been found.”

Several bodies…

So Cale really did do it, betrayed the pack and set the building on fire killing more than she had. She shook her head, that was a little much to really take in. He was tired, tired of everything Lupus had put him through, she could see it in his eyes when they spoke. Beside her someone walked up, a little kid with a mess of brown hair, he held a candy bar in his hand, and was only about five years of age, maybe.

One of the bodies was that of Marcus Mence, a boy who had escaped a mental Elysium in Louisiana back a year ago. Another body was that of Lex Woodfield,” a picture of Lex smiling at the camera holding Savannah in his arms appeared, both of them happy. Tears prickled in Scarlet’s eyes blurring her vision, she hoped they were happy now, wherever they must have gone, back with her mom and dad. “He was the owner of the cafe’ that had been thrashed the night before where the body of Savannah Holiday was found in the wreckage, the girl in the picture beside him.” They keep the picture up for a little longer and then changes it to a clip of the cafe’. “Residence of Hallyhill say that they had a young cousin living with them who is missing. We spoke with the family’s friends yesterday.”

Before Scarlet could back away, Seth showed up on the tv screen, his hair was a mess, and his eyes were glossy. “Seth Bailey, you were the last person to see young, Scarlet Hood, weren’t you?” He was nervous and kept looking around, before answering the reporter. “Yes.”

And what was you’re thought of Ms. Hood?”

She was my best friend, something was wrong, she left the convention we were at and I haven’t seen her sense.” He listened to the reporter’s question, one that didn’t get caught by the camera. His face became serious and a shadow over took him. “No. She wouldn’t do this. She’s not mental, nothing is wrong with her. If she had secrets she would tell me. She’d never do anything like this.”

Suddenly they cut him off and it turns back to the burning warehouse. “Yes I believe there’s a link here,” a deep, gravely male voice says and she sees the mahogany color of his eyes, like any human would, but the red began to out shine it, breaking through the mist. Lupus. “Rather she did it or not know one knows. The town can just hope someone finds her, and fast.” He smiles darkly at the camera, one the humans would have thought charming. “Before anything else horrible happens.” Scarlet caught a glimpse of the corner of the TV where the bold letters saying the news was ‘live’ showed. So Lupus was at the warehouse, alive, and threatening her now like he knew she was watching… .

Scarlet began to back away. Her picture then came up to the screen, words she couldn’t hear. “Hey, she looks like you!” The little kid says and looks at her, her eyes wide backing away. “Hey, lady?” His voice was small and high pitch.

Then she ran.

Quickly she ran back across the street and behind the small stores lining the road. She jumped in to the ditch to the right, getting off the small broken down road and in to a load of brush and trash. She crawled up the side of the ditch to where the tree line began of thick woods, running deep inside, shadows engulfing her.

It wasn’t till long that she noticed the sound of something behind her, looking over her shoulder, stumbling slightly as she was still running, far behind her but still in the distance, was a man in a plaid shirt and brown beard. He was running unusually fast through the woods, head bent down and just bull dozing through the brush like it didn’t even exists.

Scarlet cursed under her breath, not only did Lupus survive but another one of his followers. Her rib cage hurt, and her lungs stung from the lack of air she was getting to them. She didn’t need anyone after her but lately things weren’t going her way.

Jumping over the prickly brush and winding through the tall trees, Scarlet slipped and slid on the pine needles below as the bearded man gained on her. She was no longer quiet and stealthy like a deer, but more like a elephant trying to walk for the first time. Her legs were shaking, her heart and head pounding a unknown beat of stress.

Tripping over a up turned root in the ground, Scarlet tumbles forwards landing on her elbow, pain shooting up her arm to her neck but that wasn’t the end of it. She rolls down the hill in a mess of tangled limbs and scattered wreckage of the woods. She could feel air beneath her for a moment, no land to catch her. This was right before she was engulfed in ice cold wetness.

The creek she had fallen in roars in her ears as she fights to get her hold on reality. Terror ripped through the deepest parts of her underneath the water, unknown of her surroundings in the darkness she groped for anything in her reach, but nothing came. Her lungs were on fire, trying to breath the water runs down her throat, filling her lungs up, choking her to death.

Suddenly she is pulled upward, and a cold wind, colder than any she has ever felt before, chilling her to the bone hits her hard, and then the ground below, a warm hand wraps around her throat as she coughs and sputters, water leaving her.

Gasping for air she opens her sore eyes to the sunlight above the tree tops, then a dirty, ash covered face appears above her. Wild eyes and beard. She hadn’t ran quick enough, or maybe she had but hadn’t been graceful enough. “Hello girlie.”

Get off,” she rasp, her throat scratchy, she tried kicking him but she didn’t have the strength to lift her legs and he had just pushed down on her wind pipe sealing off her air supply. “You’re going to listen and obey, okay?”

Scarlet didn’t say anything but her nostrils flared, she had a strong erg to punch him in the face already, but she was in no position to do such thing at the moment.

Stay still,” he says and grabs her, throwing her over his shoulder, carrying her up the steep hill. It was a bumpy ride considering how big the guy was and how ruff the terrine was.

Maybe fifteen, thirty minutes later, it was hard to be sure drifting in and out of reality, Beard Man brought her to a leaning, beat up shack of a log cabin.

The door was long gone, as so with the glass of the windows, the roof was collapsing to one side, and the building was leaning badly in one direction, threatening to fall over at any moment. Inside was just as bad, the floor had rotten through, holes stuck here and there, the floor also had at least two inches of mud, as did the table tops that were sinking in age, and the wind blowing through the strained cracks and tares of the walls and moth eaten furniture.

Beard Man plopped Scarlet down in the far corner of what she had thought of as the den. considering the old couch and empty TV stand. He then pulled a long rope out of his pockets and tied it to Scarlet’s hands, tying her up tight to two large nails about the size of two of her fingers put together. He then tied her feet up so she couldn’t kick him. Both ropes of her hands and feet stung badly, cutting in to her wet skin and cutting off the blood flow.

He smiled, backing off taking a good look at his knot work, and chuckled as Scarlet tried wriggling her hands and feet free, only cutting the rope deeper in to her skin, and shivering from the bitter cold.

She couldn’t do anything at the moment but watched for his next act, it didn’t take him long till he did it, just a few seconds really. He pulled out a sleek, black cell phone and pressed speed dial, still starring at Scarlet with a weird sense of satisfaction and mischievous evil on his face. “I got her,” was all he said, nodded and then hung up sticking the phone back in his pockets.

He walked over and knelled beside Scarlet. “Boss man is going to be a little late,” he says. Boss man being Lupus. “He’s a little tied up with the officials at the moment.” The man huffed and shook his head. “If I was him I wouldn’t even bother with those filthy mortals. I’d either stay away from them, or kill them.” She was one-hundred percent sure this man was telling the truth, he didn’t seem like the one to think twice about dissing humanity or going on a killing spree.

I haven’t introduced myself properly, have I? I’m Dalton,” he says and sticks his hand out for a hand shake, her eyes flicker to his dirty hands and then back at his face expressionless. “Ah, forgot, you’re kind of tied up at the moment.” He looks over to the door way leading out side and then back at her cocking his head side ways. “Well sense boss won’t be getting here anytime soon how about I tell you story, huh? You up to that girlie? Of course you are.”

He switched from kneeling to sitting on his knees leaning in closer. “I’m pretty sure you Grandmother has told you about the coming of her daughter’s death, am I right?” Scarlet’s ears mentally perked up, interested in to this, horrible story that he is about to tell. “Ebony Riding, I think was her name. Pretty girl, matter of fact,” he reaches out and strokes her cheek gently, she flinched from his touch making him laugh. “You look and act just like her. You know, none of this would have happened if your mother’s curse hadn’t came late.” He shook his head and looked at Scarlet, his eyes shinning slightly in the shadows of the cabin. “I don’t think she was even ment to have it. She didn’t even get the curse till she was pregnant with you when she was nineteen.”

What are you saying?” Scarlet growled, not liking the way this was going. She had a amazingly huge erg to punch this Dalton, in the face as hard as possible. She couldn’t be the cause of her mother’s death, could she?

I’m saying I know you’re mother real well. The only reason Lupus even got his hands on your mother was because of me. When he was out chasing Lexius I found the real trail and caught your mother just as I’ve done with you.” He seemed amused by this story, by his rewarding story of success in capturing her mother for death. Anger swept through Scarlet, biting her lip she put pressure on the ropes on the nail, hoping just hoping the nail could ware out the rope some how.

When he broke that pest’s neck this morning, serves him right. Lexuis had it coming ever sense he started working for your great grand father. Guardians always get in the way, like that Savannah girl, she wasn’t as old and experience I could tell, but she put up a fight. I enjoyed taking my claws through her.”

You bas-”

Nah-ah, I was doing my job,” he says and runs his finger down Scarlet’s cheek, slicing it open with his sharp nails, droplets of blood running down the side of her face like red tears. “It’s not so bad that I enjoy it, is it?”

You’re a freak,” she growls, tugging on the ropes hard, he was so caught up in his story telling he wasn’t paying attention. “You shouldn’t like killing people.”

He laughed, it rang through out the abandoned house and through out the woods. “Oh, so you want me to be more like Cale?” He shook his head again. “Oh, that is a good one. Cale is a idiot, didn’t know what he was missing. You don’t know what he’s use to be like before he got soft though. Man he was fun then!”

She gritted her teeth together, tugging on the ropes as hard as she could, Dalton was to arrogate to really pay much attention to it. She could feel the ropes cutting in to her wrist, deeper and deeper, although with that she could feel the slight give she was getting, slowly it was working as warm blood ran down her arms.

There was a loud bang in the other room of the house, one she hadn’t been in before, it was almost like a door closing.

That is boss man,” Dalton says and smiles wildly dangerous, getting up and turning on his heels.

That was when the rope finally snapped. Instantly she began untying the ropes from her feet, and crept up slowly as quietly as possible.

She made it to the kitchen where the age of the house was most visible other than in the den of the moth eaten couch. Catching the glint of the sun light shinning through, something shimmered on the floor beneath the pile of dead leafs, something big.

Using her foot to brush the leaves away, a silver pan is revealed, dirty and old, but silver. She picked it up quickly feeling the weight of it in her hand. What was up with all these pans?

She had no idea, but she was starting to like the idea of cooking, not literally.

Footsteps echoed through the house as someone was walking closer and closer, soon a foot appeared in the door way and she wouldn’t have enough time to escape, but the sun was still up giving her a little bit of time left before it got on danger level two-thousand.

But in such a small space, out in the middle of no where, there would be hardly anything she could do. Gripping the pan tighter, she was sure she wouldn’t be leaving, and most likely breathing by the end of the day.

Everyone had demons inside of them, Seth’s aggression, Dalton’s evil arrogant attitude and just being a ass in general, and Scarlet’s stubbornness and secrets. But if there was one thing she knew is that sometimes the demons aren’t so bad. Sometimes they keep you going in the right track other times it might lead you in to traps. She wasn’t sure what came in to play landing herself here, her unluckiness or her demons, but she wasn’t going out without a fight either way.

TO BE CONTUINED.

The Curse of Hood - Dog Fight

Chapter Three - Dog Fight

Scarlet’s world was being turned upside down in the matter of a few short minutes. The howl of a wolf could have been heard a mile away. Scarlet had taken a quick, deep breath and went out running again, trying to regain what calm she had stored deep inside her.

Running around the corner, she wanted to fall and give out then. The place on the outside looked like a wreck. The windows were shattered and the door was thrown across the parking lot, huge claw marks dug deep in it’s side. A few lights flickered through the broken windows, and paper blew from outside it. Mixing with the howl of the wolf was the screaming siren of a imbalance and cops.

Scarlet ran in, despite the darkness she felt coming from the building. She barged right in, the tables were turned over and the front desk was smashed in half, paintings on the walls were ripped and pull down as were the curtains.

She could hear soft whimpering moans, not beast but human like whimpers. She followed the sound as her heart beat in her chest.

Behind what had use to be the front desk sat Savannah piled deep in in the wreckage, deep red blood oozed from the corner of her mouth and through the wreckage upon her. Her hair was a mess and her eyes had bags around them, she looked overly tired.

Scarlet fell beside her, she could see the soft breaths that Savannah tried to take. “I’m so sorry,” Scarlet said, brushing Savannah’s hair back. She smiled and opened her eyes, looking up at Scarlet.

I knew you were going no matter what we did. You’re stubborn like your mother.” Scarlet’s vision went a little fuzzy at the thought of her young, dead mother who had died at the hands of Lupus himself not long after Scarlet was born. Savannah grabbed Scarlet’s hand, her grip weak and fragile. “But Scarlet, you don’t need to be here with me. You need to leave, go to Lucy’s. Don’t go looking for Lex.”

What happened to Lex?” She asked suddenly very aware that he was no where to be seen. Savannah tried to shake her head but it was only a small movement. “Savannah, please where is Lex?”

She tried to take a deep breath but didn’t get much in. “They took him, Lupus and his pack .”

Scarlet starred down at Savannah. “I love you. I will miss you. You were the mother to me,” she says bringing a smile to Savannah, a tear escaping her, right before she takes her last breath and little wisp of life she had left vanishes and leaves her. Scarlet gently closes Savannah’s eyes and places a kiss upon her forehead before standing and exiting the back door grabbing a silver dagger that has ran in the family for years  right before the cops blasted through the place. Only to find a wrecked cafe’, two missing people and a dead body.

_______

Rain came down hard, splattering across the black pavement of a abandoned road, cracks and wholes fill in with the water. It soaks in to Scarlet’s hood who is oblivious to lightning playing across the blacken sky. She doesn’t care, the rain is cold but she doesn’t notice it. What she does notice is the smell of wet dog that is strung all around the empty lot in down town, only a few little shops are open. Most are hunkered down for the fast approaching storm that would rip through the town in the time of half a hour but that doesn’t make it any less dangerous.

The warehouse is big and falling apart. Garage doors hang close or loosely half way, ready to fall at any moment. Grass and weeds grow up against the brick, and the door is locked shut.

The silver dagger she carries in her hand seems weightless, the delicate curves of the handle and blade, a wolf’s head at the base of the handle, eyes filled in with red rubies.

Quietly and careful not the splash in the standing water, Scarlet presses her back against the dirty brick wall, peeking in from a half way opened garage door. She can hear their heavy  breathing and claws scraping against the concrete. Peeking in she can see the silhouettes of the wolves, counting five in all but knowing well that there is more than what can be seen. She crept away, slowly careful to where she steps, trekking to the back where the ground was muddy and each step she took she had sunken down in to the ground. Again she peeked in, now able to see the wolves themselves from the back. Wolves from all shape, sizes and colors. The strange one she had seen at the convention sat in the back of them all watching. A blonde, nameless wolf sat silently with the black, red eyed wolf named Lupus, the leader of the pack. The most feared wolf of the family line and her mother’s killer.

I told you, I don’t know where she is,” a weak voice says and draws Scarlet’s attention to it. Lex sits a few feet away, only inches from a chocolate brown wolf that snarled and growled in his face wordless. Lex’s blonde hair was streaked with blood and blood trickled down from the corner of his mouth, which was set in a determine line. He looks battered and ragged, but okay – alive-.

Scarlet could not save him, not now at least when the moon is high in the sky. She would have to await till dawn when they go back to their normal forms and are slower.

She had to hold back a scream when the brown wolf slammed Lex up against the brick wall, a sickening smack! Echoed through the warehouse from the impact of his head meeting the bricks and cracking. He landed on the floor in a heap, still breathing but just out cold.

She took a deep breath trying to calm herself down. Slowly she tore her eyes from the scene, Lex wasn’t going to wake up any time soon. Quietly she walked to a boarded up window, they wouldn’t be able to see her so she used it has a step on to the roof. Luckily when she had gotten on top of it she didn’t make much noise to disturb the wolves below.

She crawled across the roof to a part where a previous storm, most likely tornado, had torn it away, revealing the rooms below, where the wolves lay. Several scattered about, some of them trying to sleep through the storm that beat down against the roof and Scarlet’s small form, others wrestled playfully like puppies. Lupus and the blonde wolf seemed to be content on where they were just sitting. The unknown one who Scarlet had guessed was Lycaon as Charl had said when they first appeared. A Greek wolf God was to much to process for Scarlet. She is known of creatures of the nights that are in scary bed time stories, not Gods and Goddesses.

The rain let up slightly, and soon disappeared, revealing the sky of stars and night. Scarlet fought to stay awake but lost it and had fallen in a deep sleep on top of the roof in hiding.

___

She heard something that was like bee’s buzzing around inside her ear, then it got louder and more aggressive like a chainsaw, and then finally she recognized it as the growl of a wolf. Opening her eyes, she could just barely see in the foggy early morning, the sun was still down but would be up soon. She looked down quietly through the hole, the wolves were fast asleep curled up in bunches, the growling coming from the possibly psychotic chocolate colored wolf. Lex was still out. Now was her chance.

Slowly and quietly, she crept off the roof, landing down on the muddy ground. She knew if she had just dropped in from the roof the wolves would have awakened. She checked it once more before going in through one of the half opened garage doors.

She tried hard to make sure her footsteps didn’t echo, but that was hard but she did alright with it. After a few long seconds of creeping she reached Lex’s broken looking body. She tried lifting him, but he moaned in the processes, making one of the wolf’s ears shot up in attention but not awake.

She tried again, Lex’s eyes fluttered and opened. “Scarlet?” He whispered. Her words caught in her throat and she sucked in a breath, knowing there was no way the wolves would ignore this.

She was right of course, the chocolate wolf awoke and rose. Quickly, Scarlet tried to get Lex up but he was so much bigger it was useless. The chocolate wolf growled deep in his throat, alerting the other wolves. The blonde one who hung out with Lupus awoke along with everyone else, he seemed angry when he woke, and then pity? She didn’t know and she didn’t want to know. The nature of the werewolf is a complicated one.

Lupus woke, stood high on his toes and growled. Scarlet stood up bound to fight if it came to that, gripping the dagger tight in her hands making her knuckles go white she starred down Lupus and the other wolves.

Scarlet you’ve got to leave,” Lex said, weakly.

No. Scarlet thought shaking her head. “I’m not leaving.”

There was something like laughter that rolled through the wolves.

Behind you!” Lex and another voice shouted. Scarlet looked over her shoulder quickly, just in time to see Lycaon shot towards her. She ducked and rolled out of the way, landing on her feet just as Lycaon had.

Charl was standing in one of the garage doors. Just standing there watching. Lex squinted his way. “Who is that? And why is he here?”

No time to answer!” Charl said as Lycaon attacked Scarlet again. She tried to roll out of the way once again but was caught by a paw, and trying to avoid the fangs she huddled up, holding her dagger close. “You will be my kill Red Riding Hood,” he growled inside her head. She could hear Lupus growl, obviously displeased at this but not attempting to out fight the wolf God for such.

Lycaon reared up, aiming for Scarlet’s throat about to rip her to shreds, opened his mouth. “Say good-bye Red.”

That was just about the time that pan whacked him in the head. Hard. The sound of the metal of the pan meeting Lycaon’s skull was extremely loud and rang through the warehouse that stored, yes indeed and lucky for Charl, pans!

Lycaon growled at Charl who began to back up. “Egyptian,” Lycaon growled. The sunlight beamed down through the ceiling, garage doors and free windows, silently the wolves began to shrink in form and lose their hair, but Lycaon was not and fast approaching Charl. “Good luck Scarlet!” He called before taking off with Lycaon following closely behind.

Thank you!” Scarlet yelled back even though he probably couldn’t hear her any longer.

Scarlet,” a new voice said, deep and gravely. “You shouldn’t have came here.”

Lupus had said, just buttoning up his jeans, his bare chest showing and barefooted. He had long spiky black hair, pale skin, good figure, and the same glowing red eyes. He smiled side ways showing sharp teeth, and he didn’t look much older than she, college age maybe. He was just as scary in human form as in wolf form.

Although the werewolves surrounding him not so much. The blonde one was muscular and had a hair of straight blonde hair, and green eyes, he looked bored and rather unamused, he was actually fully dressed and maybe about seventeen. The chocolate brown wolf was a little shorter, and had wild brown hair and eyes, with a crazy look on his face.

Shall we kill her now?” He asked.

Shh, patience Marcus,” Lupus said. Marcus was surely stamped mental as the eye could see.

Scarlet backed up to stand right beside Lex, who says nothing but look at the gang in front of them. That was what it was like, a gang of crazy, hungry wolves with thumbs.

It’s amazing how you think you can just come in and walk out of here. You have to much hope,” Lupus says cocking his head slightly studying Scarlet, making her uncomfortable under  the eyes of these men. He came closer, almost as he was in a trance.

Don’t you dare come closer,” Scarlet said, a sharp edge to her voice making Lupus look at her even more closely and frowned.

You’re a foolish girl,” he says as Scarlet tries to pick Lex up again, throwing his arm over her shoulder, but keeping a eye on the pack at the same time. “Marcus, now it’s time.”

Finally!” Marcus says and smiles showing everyone  his teeth, jumping on the balls of his feet excitedly. “Ready to dance little girl? Or are we going to play chase? I love both of them.”

She didn’t have time to answer his crazy talk, nor actually realize that Lupus, as the owner just sicked his dog on the game, being Marcus and her. Coming fast out of the corner of her eyes Marcus approached in a blur. She dropped Lex  and stumbled away, Marcus smiled now standing between her and Lex. “Where you going pretty lady?” He asked, Scarlet still backed up. Wondering if she could trail him off away from Lex. He slowly followed one step after another like he was stalking her.

Out of the corner of her eye there was a empty hall way, dark, but it would have to do. She took off towards it as fast as she could, his laughs echoing through the building like a mad man. She ran down it nearly to the end before darting inside one of the side rooms and pressed her back against the wall, hoping that he hadn’t seen her turn in.

But she was lucky then, Marcus walked past the room door where she was hiding out, just a few feet stopped. “Scarlet,” he called in a sing song voice like one would use to lure in a child.

Quietly she crept out of the room and came up behind him, just about to plunge the dagger in to Marcus’ back as soon as he turned blindingly fast around and grabbed her wrist. “Too slow.” And then shoved her against the wall. Fire hot pain shot up her spine, she bit her tongue trying to hold down the scream and could taste blood.

She kicked fiercely at Marcus who ignored every blow she thrown as he looked her over. He smelled badly like wet dog that rolled in the trash. Disgusting.

Then Marcus let go, dropping Scarlet to the ground. It just so happens she kicked him between the legs. Quickly, Scarlet took the chance and with dagger in hand drove the point of it in to Marcus’ chest. His eyes went wide as he took his last breath as the silver spread inside is body.

Lupus has lost it,” a new voice says. Turning her head to the end of the hallway, the blonde wolf stands. “You’re such a pretty young girl. It’s a shame really, that all you will do in your life is run, if you survive.”

Scarlet took the silver dagger from Marcus’ chest, the blonde wolf looks him over and then back. “You’ll want to burn him.” whoever this wolf was he didn’t seem dangerous, but he didn’t seem all that sane either. Turning on his own pack? “I’ll do it, don’t worry. There is flamables around here. It’ll put up a good spark.”

Who are you?” Scarlet asked. The guy cocks his head at her and smiles sadly.

It’s Cale.”

Cale,” Scarlet says nervously.

I’m sorry,” he says suddenly. “I don’t want to hurt you, but I have orders.”

Scarlet’s eyes go wide as this dawns on her, and he reaches out to grab her, he does of course. He’s much faster. But she cut his arm with her dagger from his shoulder down, making him howl in pain as it hisses and smokes, she takes off running back in to the main area.

Scarlet run!” Lex screams turning her attention back to his corner, Lupus has his hands on each side of his head, the rest of the pack blocks the garage doors. Trapped.

Going so soon?” Lupus asked, freezing Scarlet in her path. “You’re just in time for the main advent.”

Before she could scream, before she could run and stop it, a sicking crack echo’s through the building as Lupus snaps Lex’s neck and his lifeless body falls to the cold floor. Scarlet couldn’t breath, a pain in her chest so great it’s like her heart is being ripped from her body. It hurts to much to cry or to even speak. This is what heartbreak feels like. When everything in you’re life is ripped away in a instance. First Seth, then Savannah and now Lex. There was no one else, no one else but Grandma.

Grandma… .

Go! Leave!” Cale shouts holding his arm, Lupus was approaching Scarlet and snarls at Cale.

Shut up! I didn’t put you in second charge to ruin everything!”

Cale didn’t say anything, but glare at Lupus. But Scarlet took in Cale’s words, she didn’t have anything anymore but the exits were blocked. She wouldn’t be able to escape, but she ran anyways, ran towards one of the boarded up windows as soon as Cale produced a match and kerosine.

Get her!” Lupus shouts, shaking the whole building with his rage, one of the unknown wolves charged Scarlet, she didn’t look behind her but timed it standing in front of the window. He sprung forwards for her as soon as she ducked and rolled to the side and back on her feet. The werewolf had plow in to the boards across the window, breaking each one to pieces and in the process stuck giant splinters of wood in to his head.

Scarlet grabbed him from the back of the shirt and yanked him free from the window and jumped through, landing in the muddy ground and ran for the woods. She knew where she wanted to go and how to get there.

Scarlet!” Lupus bellowed, right before flames erupted from the building, licking at her backside as she took off and plunged in to the darkness of the woods.

Safe for now. She knew the fire wouldn’t kill Lupus.

He’d still be after her.

The Curse of Hood Chapter 2 - Pans are Weapons

Chapter Two – Pans are Weapons

“Seth!” Scarlet called as Seth took off, quickly she ran for him, grabbing his shirt collar making him choke back a surprised scream.

“Stop,” Scarlet hissed holding him tight as he twisted around. They listened for a moment before they heard his mother laugh and then a whimper of a dog, and a voice of a man.

“Have you seen Scarlet any?” Lex asked, they could hear his voice faintly. Seth shot a look at Scarlet. “He’s on to you,” he whispered and they backed up together and took to the bathroom together in hiding, where the walls were thin enough, and stood right over the kitchen to hear better and be out of sight.

“No I haven’t, why?” Seth’s mother asked, and then started talking to their massive German Shepherd named Thantose, Greek God of the Dead. Scarlet guessed that’s what the growling and howling had been, he never really liked Lex, not many animals do anyways.

“She’s missing, was suppose to be over here before we grounded her.”

“Oh, well I hope you find her, I’ll keep a eye out for her,” Seth’s mother says, Scarlet could just imagine Mrs. Bailey smiling her bright smile with her strawberry blonde hair curling around her shoulders.

“Thank you. We appreciate that,” Lex says and soon the sound of a door closing comes from down stairs. Both Scarlet and Seth release what air they have been holding.

“That could have been close,” Seth says and peeks through the bathroom door, no curious mother. They both knew she didn’t see nor hear Scarlet coming over, so what reason would there be for her to come up and check? None, because she trusted her son way to much. He was a mischievous sort of guy, and Scarlet knew that, but he’s never done anything to wild. He hardly ever gets caught. Once he had decorated the boy’s locker rooms at school with pink ribbons. No one knew who had done it, luckily. He would have been flatten out like a pancake if they did.

He waved Scarlet forward and they went back in his room, it was still early morning and they had time to kill.

“Seth! Breakfast time!” His mother called, he flinched at his name being called.

“Jumpy?” Scarlet smirked.

“No, I just don’t like her yelling like that. I um, got to go down there. There’s some breakfast bars somewhere in here, I-”

“Seth,” Scarlet cuts in. “Go down, I’ll be fine.”

“Okay,” he nods and quickly leaves shutting the door behind him.

Scarlet walked around his room a few times and then sat on at his desk, opening a shoe box that sat next to the computer a few breakfast bars set, wrapped up in bright ‘nature’ like colors. She took the one with the chocolate chips, she wasn’t much for breakfast but chocolate anything was good. Being snoopy Scarlet pulled up his internet tabs, several were blogs talking about UFO sitings, some of his documents were T-shirt designs, and other things.

One T-shirt caught Scarlet’s eye. It was all black, a little girl was printed on the front, wolf had hold of the little girl in a red hood. Her gray eyes, her auburn hair, she looked just like a little Scarlet. The words were white; “WATCH OUT FOR THE BIG BAD WOLF! YOU MIGHT JUST BE HIS RED RIDDING HOOD!”Scarlet shook inside frightened and jumped when his bedroom door opened and closed.

“My mother should be banned from the kitchen,” Seth says making a disgusted looking face. “Not only did she destroy it, but her cooking is gross.”

“Yeah,” Scarlet said distracted. “Hey, Seth, how did you come up with this one?”

She asked pointing at the screen, he squinted at it for a moment and then smiled nervously.

“You actually. You always wear that red hood, and you seem like you’re hiding from something all the time.” He shrugs. “Stupid huh?”

“No,” Scarlet shakes her head. “Not at all.”

“Yeah, so anyways its eight o’clock. I need to set up the my booth by two, wanna go in to town and kill some time?”

“Yes,” Scarlet said relieved for the offer to get out of the house. Together they sneaked out and walked down the street oblivious to what was watching them. _____

Three o’clock the town clock rang loud and strong in mid town of Hallyhill, the gaming convention was set up in the small arcade inside town square. From the lack of room Seth’s booth was set up outside on the side walk, shirts piled high on top of the pull out table. He set jittery, Scarlet was leaning on the brick wall of the arcade watching the residents walk pass, a few groups of teenage boys and stereotype nerds stopped at Seth’s booth, mildly interested in the unique T’s.

“I got twenty bucks!” Seth says excited holding up the two set of fives, and a ten with a crooked smile on his face.

“I see, and I’m guessing you’re planning on blowing it all here before we leave?”

Seth pouted. “Please, I like holding on to my money- Oh my Gods look at that!” He practically shouted and raced inside the arcade stopping at booth with a ‘life size’ alien figuring. Pale gray/green skin and big round black eyes that starred off in to the distance. Scarlet shivered and looked around for any sign of Lex before entering the building.

Seth was suddenly like a kid in a candy shop. “How much is this?” He asked looking at it with wild eyes, the big guy at the booth raised one eyebrow.

“Fifty dollars.”

“Shoot,” he mumbles and then picks up a alien coffee cup that was oddly shape. “And this?”

“Five,” the seller said not amused and probably lacking his coffee high. Quickly Seth dished out one of his five dollar bills and shoved the coffee mug in Scarlet’s face. “Look how awesome this is!”

“Yeah,” Scarlet says backing away from the mug. She didn’t care much for aliens, or their eyes it was just creepy and Lex tortured her with alien movies growing up as a kid. “Its cool.”

“You’re not really in to this are you?” Seth said stuffing the mug in to his back pack and looking up at Scarlet, a little let down.

“No, I’m just a little out of my comfort zone right now,” Scarlet admitted, she didn’t know a whole lot about aliens and games, but she did think they were interesting. She was uncomfortable with the feeling of being watched. She knew that feeling to well, it was the creatures of the night that lurked in the shadows looking for her every chance they get.

“I understand that,” Seth says shrugging and threading his arm through Scarlet’s. “But Scar, this is the amazing world of awesomeness,” he walks her through the arcade. “See? They have Star Wars!” He leads her over to the Star Wars booth. “And Call of Duty!” He points over to the gaming booth with a bunch of funny looking robotic soldiers. “ And that new Alien game!” Seth leaned in closer and whispered. “Which is super awesome by the way,” making Scarlet giggle and he pulled her around in another circle. “And then there’s the Legos. Silent humor of people made of colorful blocks!” Now that one made Scarlet laugh. “See Scar? Its awesome here.”

“I see,” Scarlet says and then stiffens up. “Why are you holding me like that?”

“I-um,” he stuttered, and then pulled away from Scarlet. “Sorry.”

Scarlet shrugged, they ran around looking at the rest of the booths, a few role players walked past, Seth high five a few of them, and joined a few little contest.

“Hey Scar come do this one!” Seth called out, waving Scarlet over to a game box with two sets of controllers Some type of monster shooting control game. “Anyone up to compete?!” Seth yelled, everyone’s attention on him. “You there!” He calls out and points at a thirteen year old boy with black hair, and golden eyes who was talking to another boy about the same age, black hair and black eyes and glasses. “How about you play against my friend?”

“I don’t really fight,” he said looking at his friend for help, Scarlet could tell by the way his friend smiled and shoved him forward he wasn’t going to get any.

“What is your name?” Seth asked sounding kind of like one of those circus men who try to get you to buy ridiculous things for a high price.

“Charl,” the guy says. “Charl McFloy.”

“And who is your helpful friend?” Seth asked.

“Dude, Daniel Third,” his friend answered.

“Awesome name, so I’m Seth, and you’re going up against my friend Scarlet. And you, Daniel.” Seth pointed at him. “You’re up against me on the other one.” Suddenly Seth turned back to Charl. “Kick butt, don’t let the girl win. Good luck Scar!” And with that Seth left walking off a few feet to the a different game with Daniel with a crooked grin.

Chose you’re weapons!” The game booms in a large, deep man’s voice and a set of choices popped up on screen.

Guns, bombs, swords, daggers and… …

“Player 2 has picked pans,” it announces Charl’s pick. “Player 1 has chosen daggers.”

“Why did you chose pans as your weapon choice?” Scarlet asked quietly, focusing on the game.

“It’s the only thing I know to use,” Charl answered and he wasn’t kidding.

The game kept throwing in mythological monsters from Greek and Egyptian stories. Monsters with big teeth, and part of several different animals. Charl had hit each one in the face and weak areas with the pan and even stuck it in a fire to warm up, melting the part of the skin of one of Medusa’s sisters. Scarlet stabbed each monsters quickly in the right spots. But once the snake haired lady herself appeared, well let’s just say that didn’t go well for either of them and the machine started to scream “Game Over!”

“Good game,” Charl says. “Even though neither of us won.”

“Yes,” Scarlet agrees and then shivers, something was there. Charl walked off to join back with Daniel who apparently defeated Seth. Seth hugged Scarlet asking a million questions at once as Scarlet looking around starting to panic. Then she caught sight of the source before everyone started to scream.

Four wolves the size of a car walk outside on the street, one brown one which seems to be the lowest in the pack, then a blonde one, you can see he had something running through his mind, but what no one would know, then the giant gray female wolf, she was bigger than all of them, through the screams of people who had different ideas what was happening – most didn’t make sense – Scarlet could hear Charl say “Lycaon.” Which didn’t make much sense since she was the Greek Goddess of wolves. And then Daniel says something in a different language with something black wrapped around his hand, they both disappeared in the mix of people.

But the wolf that worried Scarlet the most was the second biggest and jet black. He had a scar over his red eyes and razor sharp teeth. Scarlet could feel the darkness and death lurking from him.

“Lupus,” Scarlet said worried.

“There’s a fire,” Seth said, Scarlet was happy he couldn’t see him but she needed to get away from him and quick.

“I’m sorry Seth,” she said looking at him, he turned to look at her. “Good-bye.”

“Scar?” He said confused, Scarlet took off through the crowd to the back exit of the building. “Scarlet!” He screamed but was held back from the panic crowd of humans.

Tears streaming from her face Scarlet burst through the door in to the cold night air, the moon had just fallen and luckily the wolves hadn’t seen her yet, but it wouldn’t take long. She forced her legs to carry her further away as she pulled out her phone and called the only number on speed dial.

“Hello?” Lex’s voice asked bored. “He’s here!” Scarlet screamed and dropped her phone after nearly getting ran over by a car.

She ran faster. Crying and pained, she was leaving her only normal life behind to run and hide again. Not knowing if Seth would be safe or not, she could only hope.

Out of the corner of her eye something black zoomed past, she stopped to see what it was, she was only a corner away from the cafe’. Then a wolf howled in to the night.

Coming from her house.
